Once Upon a Time in Farsley

In 2005 the Farsley Youth Development Project was created by local people, youth workers and churches to create a fun and safe environments for local young people and to bring the old and young people in Farsley closer together.

Directed by Simon Brewis and Beci Jamieson ‘Once upon a time in Farsley’ reacted to both of these needs. Using local history as the creative stimulus, we met regularly to devise a performance with 25 of the young people in a process that involved them, and senior members of the community, engaging face to face. The performance was attended by over 100 local residents, and toured to a local home for the elderly and the ‘Breeze Festival’ held at the Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds city centre.

“hi I’ve just been working…on the Farsley youth theatre project and thoroughly enjoyed myself and overcame my fear of stage fright”.

“Thank you for the experience of being part of the Farsley Youth Theatre project, I have really enjoyed myself. Many thanks”.

“Helloo. Um. Well. What to say. I have to admit I had a few laughs whilst taking part. And quite frankly…I made some friends :] ”
